Human rights and labor abuses can be challenging to prevent given the global scale and complexity of food supply chains. Despite these challenges, efforts to prevent abuses and government legislation aimed at improving human and labor rights across the globe are increasing. In particular, we’ve heard from seafood industry representatives about a need for guidance and that companies are approaching improvements from a variety of starting points.
With support from the Walmart Foundation, FishWise will provide an online roadmap and set of tools that a wide range of stakeholders (e.g. producers, processors, brands, and retailers) can use to build, assess, and improve socially responsible practices in seafood supply chains. The roadmap refers to a series of steps, and each step will offer a compilation of tools, guidance, and resources to help companies implement the roadmap components and track progress.
We expect this free, publicly available online platform to increase industry and stakeholder understanding of the practical steps and strategies to uphold responsible practices and protect workers in seafood supply chains. The platform is currently in development and will launch publicly in March, 2019.
During this webinar, attendees will:
• See a sneak-preview of the project and discuss how it can support the needs of retailers and suppliers
• Share observations and feedback about the prototype and its applications for retailers and suppliers
• Learn about ways retailers would use this platform to communicate about socially responsible practices, initiatives, and success stories with supply chains and consumers
