Registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs) are working behind the scenes to ensure that credible information and evidence-based messaging is reaching consumers using a wide variety of channels. This new FMI video captures the role that technology plays in the nutrition and health space to help inform and empower consumers as they make personalized food choices for improved overall health.   

Caree Jackson Cotwright, PhD, RDN, LD, Director of Nutrition Security & Health Equity at USDA, emphasizes her mission to make MyPlate a household name with far-reaching programs and tools to reach every community. Under her lead, the MyPlate team of registered dietitians has embraced technology to prioritize meeting the needs of consumers with resources, including fun and engaging digitally based tools.   

Ashley Roth, MS, RDN, Nutritionist at Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion at USDA, specifically highlights how MyPlate can be customized to fit personal dietary needs, preferences, cultural tradition and budget, using a wide range of MyPlate, Shop Simple and Start Simple tech tools to include smartphone and smartwatch apps and Alexa home device solutions.    

Judy Seybold, MS, RD, LD, CLC, Chief Nutrition Officer and Principal at Sifter, demonstrates how next-gen technology, like Sifter, utilizes the knowledge and training of registered dietitians to translate information from the package against evidence-based nutrition care practices and food regulations to make it easy for customers to personalize dietary guidance every day.
