From Plant-Based to Cell-Cultured:
A Regulatory Update on Alternatives for Traditional Food Items
Wednesday, December 11, 2019
(2:00 pm EST / 1:00 pm CST / 12:00 PM MST/ 11:00 AM PST)
Webinar Description:
The availability and popularity of plant-based alternatives to traditional food items such as meats and dairy products is continuing to grow. What do we see on the horizon for these brands and for retailers hoping to sell these products? Plant-based brands use a wide range of terms to describe their products; however, bills have been introduced in many states and some passed to prevent or limit plant-based and/or cell-cultured products from being labeled using certain terms. On the federal side, the FDA is considering terminology used to describe dairy alternatives that could also affect how USDA views plant based “meats”. Additionally, cell-based meats will further complicate the regulatory framework with the FDA and USDA each regulating a different portion of the product’s lifecycle. Join us for an FMI-member only discussion to examine these issues.
