Join us for a tour before you leave San Diego! Choose from the following options:
-
Tour of the Energy Innovation Center and a Vons Store (Motor Technology Demo): The Energy Innovation Center is in a building that began as a grocery store in the 1950s, which was transformed in 2011 into a place where you’ll find the latest in energy and environmental technologies. The Center also houses a working demonstration kitchen for operators to test their recipes on different equipment. The Center is one of only ten buildings in the world to achieve Double LEED Platinum Certification. http://www.sdge.com/eic
Following the visit to the Energy Innovation Center, attendees will see a demonstration of smart synchronous motor technologies being piloted in a Vons store. The Department of Energy, in conjunction with Oak Ridge National Labs, recently determined that new commercially available smart synchronous motors utilize less than half the energy of the next best evaporator fan motor offerings (currently ECM motors), at the same cost and with higher reliability. An overview of this technology will be provided and real-time data will be shared showing the significant energy savings this new technology offers.

Tour of San Diego Stores: The San Diego area is home to some tremendous grocery experiences that showcase innovative layouts and customer-centric merchandising. This tour will include a Sprouts store in San Diego. Sprouts stores are usually smaller than a typical supermarket, and offer fresh, natural and organic foods and products in a setting that feels like an old-fashioned farmers market. We will also visit Bristol Farms, in La Jolla. Each Bristol Farms has a unique and distinct feel designed to facilitate the communities in which they are located. Also on the tour is Northgate Gonzalez Market in San Diego, a premier Southern California supermarket chain that caters to the Latino community. Northgate has more than 30 stores throughout Los Angeles, San Diego and Orange Counties and is a winner of the FMI Community Outreach Awards for neighborhood health improvement programs.
Attendees interested in the tour must choose their tour and pay the $50 fee when they register for the conference.
