More than 100 Companies Registered to Attend

ARLINGTON, VA — June 24, 2009 — More than 100 companies already are registered to attend the Food Industry Sustainability Summit, to be held August 17-19, 2009, in San Francisco, CA. Designed by the Food Marketing Institute (FMI), the Summit is bringing together leaders and visionaries — retailers, wholesalers, suppliers, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), academia and government — to explore emerging issues, innovative solutions and best practices.

“The Summit transcends the economic down times we are experiencing,” said FMI president and chief executive officer Leslie G. Sarasin. “The growing concern about the impact of climate change and population growth on our natural resources serves as a reminder to us all that we must have sustainable business practices in place to preserve what we have for future generations. The Summit presents an opportunity to help companies be more proactive and develop new ways to measure, manage and drive sustainability within their companies.”

The program, developed in cooperation with California Grocers Association Educational Foundation, will feature more than 80 speakers who will discuss strategies, provide information and resources and reveal new research to help companies create and refine sustainability programs. It is custom designed to improve the triple bottom line — people, the planet and profits.
