National Nutrition Month® is an annual campaign created 50 years ago in 1973 by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (the Academy), the world’s largest organization of food and nutrition professionals. The goal is to spark excitement around making informed food choices and to spur engagement around building healthful eating habits.
March is also the perfect time to join together with USDA to help promote the food groups included in MyPlate. For over a decade, USDA has collaborated with the MyPlate National Strategic Partners, a varied group of companies and organizations all across the country driven by this mission. MyPlate partnership programs provide an opportunity for organizations, communities, and individuals to join together in helping promote MyPlate and the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2020-2025. For as long as we can remember FMI, has been an active MyPlate Partner.
What does this mean exactly?
It means that we believe in reaching consumers with evidence-based healthy eating messages that align with the Dietary Guidelines, which actually mirrors one of our FMI commitments announced at the recent White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition and Health in support of the structural pillar to, “empower all consumers to make and have access to healthy food.” FMI members committed to reach 100 million consumers with evidence-based nutrition messages in 2023.
How can we do that?
FMI members across the industry can join the MyPlate National Strategic Partnership, working together to share links, messages and tips to help consumers find and personalize small positives changes for better health.
